Villagers cry for more boreholes

Masvingo-Insufficient water sources in Chivi North has made villagers vulnerable to serious water problems as they cry for more borehole construction to curb the prevailing situation since they are now depending on shallow wells and dam water.

In a recent interview with the headman of Madyangove village Eliot Madyangove revealed that they are facing serious challenges with water for domestic use because there is only one functional borehole that supply the whole community with water.

“The dam is congested as it supplies six villages and the dam might dry up in the next two months due to insufficient rains experienced in this region” said Madyangove.

He added that the councillor had donated tanks for irrigation, but water remains a barrier to many activities in their community as the dam holds less water for irrigation and livestock.

“Water is the major challenge that we are facing in this village. The dam we are depending on is leaking  and the dam will soon dry ,we will no longer have any sources of water, we wish donors could assist us with boreholes” said Madyangove

Villagers from Ngwere also said they are facing the same problem of water saying they get water from ward five which is more than two kilometres when dams and shallow wells dry up.

Liaison Chigombe from Ngwere village said when the dams and shallow wells get dry they get water from ward five which is more than two kilometres from their village.
